A little peek at my 30day painting challenge (max 30 mins a day). Some abstract pieces took shape, others stayed unfinished, but just making art daily was the real win. Doing it with an artist buddy @kyungahsong_art totally helped me stick with it. Might even have a game plan for round two!😏
This piece got the most attention during the Art Walk! Many people asked about my process, so here’s a peek at a few early stages. I don’t use references — I just respond to what unfolds and let the layers build. I often leave parts exposed to reveal the painting’s history. Sometimes it turns into an abstract landscape, floral-ish forms, or playful shapes and colors. You never know!🙃
My 3rd year at the Art Walk was amazing! Thank you so much to everyone who visited my art (and me), purchased my paintings and prints and to my family for all the help — I’m truly grateful for it all. There were good chats, lots of laughs, and one moment that brought a tear — all of it, so good! Here are some originals that found their new homes. I truly hope they bring a little joy to their new spaces. My body feels like I did a thousand squats😅 but my heart is full of warmth and excitement. These two are the biggest abstract paintings I’m bringing to the @yegartwalk this weekend (30x40 and 36x36 — all dressed up with frames by @cjcustomart ). My spot📍83 Ave across from Varscona Theatre. At my first Art Walk in 2023, the biggest thing in my tent was my sign 🤣 — most of my work was mini-sized, with 11x14 being the largest. I wasn’t fully ready, but I did it anyway! That’s how it all started. This year will be my third Art Walk, and I’m so excited to share my progress and journey in abstract painting. It all starts with fun—100% intuitive. Then comes the stage of endless adding and subtracting. But eventually, it feels almost done. Once I added the wiggly line and subtle textures, that was it! Today, I installed my paintings at the lovely local tea shop @acquiredtastetea They’ll be on display for next three months (until the end of July). A set of 24x30” acrylic paintings. This is definitely one of the styles that evolved along the way. * My painting “Distant Land” was accepted into the SCA 2025 Artists Open International Online Juried Exhibition. Apr 1 - Jun 15 @society_of_canadian_artists ………. I was eager to finish this 36x36 painting in 2024, but completing it on the first day of 2025 feels just as good. I’m ready to let it go. Becoming an abstract painter has been an amazing journey, and it’s just the beginning. This year, my goal is to become a full-time artist.
